Eugene L. Tattini was appointed deputy director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in July 2001, having retired as a USAF Lt. Gen. and Commander of the Space & Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles AFB.
He is the Laboratory's chief operating officer responsible to the director for the day-to-day management of JPL's resources and activities, including management of the Laboratory's solar system exploration, Mars, astronomy, physics, Earth science and interplanetary network programs, as well as all business operations. These activities employ 5,000 scientists, engineers, technicians and business support personnel, and generate .5 billion in annual revenues.
